The scoop on ‘Doo’!
Vermicomposting, more commonly known as worm composting, is a method for recycling organic food waste. In a nutshell as the organic matter begins to decay composting worms consume the bacteria it produces. As it passes through the digestive tract it undergoes a magical transformation and once the food is digested it is excreted in the bedding as a tiny beneficial pellet. In an optimal setting these composting worms can consume an enormous of food waste in a small period of time and the final result is a rich, dark, earthy-smelling soil conditioner known as castings, or as we call it Worm Doo!
This ‘Doo’ is dominated by beneficial soil microorganisms as well as other essential minerals such as nitrate, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and calcium which are all important for growing healthy plants. As little as a tablespoon of Worm Doo provides enough organic plant nutrients to feed a 6″ potted plant for more than two months. It stimulates plant growth more than any other natural product on the market producing vibrant colors, bigger blooms and better tasting food production. Unlike animal manure and artificial fertilizers it is absorbed easily and immediately by plants. Worm Doo not only stimulates plant growth but it also due to its texture, enhances the ability of your soil to retain water. Its no wonder organic gardeners refer to it as “Black Gold”
